Lynne was born in Victoria, B.C., Canada and attended the University of Victoria where she completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting and design. Education in the visual arts at that time was a chaotic era, best described as "here's some paint, here's a brush, create something". It was a time when anything outrageous and absurd was applauded while representational imagery was scoffed at. A disappointing program for her, where skills took a back seat to staging something "groovy" or outlandish. After university, a series of low paying art related jobs ensued. A period of frustration and lack of direction. Hungry for a more stable, lucrative income, Lynne returned to the University of Victoria and completed an internship in teaching secondary school.
A busy new period was spent establishing a career as a high school art teacher in Calgary, Alberta, teaching at Crescent Heights and Henry Wisewood High Schools. At Crescent Heights, Lynne was asked to teach 3-dimensional art as opposed to the painting background that she was familiar with. Ironically, this refueled her interest in creating her own work as teaching sculpture required taking more courses. She discovered the Alberta College of Art and took classes from the sculptor, Katie Ohe, modelling portraits in clay. Lynne also enrolled in classes in watercolour painting and drawing during the evening at the college, rekindling her interest in painting. During this time she met her husband, a farmer and rancher, and moved out to the farm where she found an abundance of inspiration for her own work. But there was little time for working on her own art as she still commuted to Calgary to teach.
Advancing her skills in sculpture, she took a workshop in bronze casting at Red Deer College. Commuting to teach in Calgary and working in both painting and sculpture in her spare time was a juggling act. Relief from that busy time arrived when she and her husband decided to retire and move to the Comox Valley on Vancouver Is. Lynne still continued to work part time substitute teaching, but there was more time to work in the studio.
Lynne is still developing her work in both watercolours, oils and sculpture, working with a variety of imagery. The amazing shapes and colours of the Arbutus trees and the sculptural rock formations found on the islands have been an inspiration for both watercolours and oils. Portraiture in clay has been the focus of her 3-dimensional work. Currently, Lynne has been working on portraiture in oils and is considering doing commission work in the future. She is an Associate member of the Canadian Institute of Portrait Artists.
