OIL PAINTING

The Pond, click to see larger view The Pond is one of the pond series of paintings inspired by the complex web of forms and reflections created by the swamp lilies found in many west coast lakes. It is framed in a simple, contemporary frame of purple heart wood. Lynne is renowned for her rich colour and abstract patterns incorporated into a variety of subjects. One can often see the influence sculpture has on her painting as the shapes almost appear to be "sculpted" with a brush.

Metamorphosis, click to see larger view
The animate forms of the driftwood were the original inspiration for Metamorphosis. Later on, while altering the original background that I was unhappy with, my focus became the everchanging sky and water, hence the change in title to "Metamorphosis", reminding us that everything in the universe is constantly changing.
It has a custom, brushed oak frame that repeats the colour and texture of the driftwood.
The calm serenity of the two ladies gazing out to sea on a ferry ride was the inspiration behind Tranquillity.

Arch, click to see larger view
Arch was inspired by poplar trees at our farm in Alberta as they seemed to form an arch, or frame, through which one could see the fields in the distance. What mainly interested me was the fantastic pattern of leaves, grasses and branches. A lot of this painting is lost in the reproduction.
The green of the golf course in Peter's Green , is inspirational from the point of view of a golfer as well as a painter. The three balls were painted on the green to provide tension and contrast to the harmony of the scene in addition to the discord provided by the approaching storm.

Water Lily Composition, click to see larger view Water Lily Composition is one of the pond series. I experimented with metallic oil paints but didn't like the effect, and as a result, the painting went through many changes. The abstract shapes of the lilies are fun to work with!
